We love this place! So back we came, but this time we both ordered the Mac and Cheese, it just looked so good when Mark had it last year! And indeed it was soooo good, even Marley loved it! Staff were awesome and although its stairs to get in it was really pram and baby friendly once we got in...

I had Daisy Mays on my list from our first trip, but we just never made it there… My pre printed menu came with us on every trip and it was good to finally use it! With Mark being a vegetarian we ordered lots of fixins and for around 40 we ate for 2 nights! The food was absolutely divine, so we ordered from them twice during our stay... If only I could get their recipes, unfortunately the fixins arent in the Daisy Mays BBQ book...

We had one of their menus from the foyer of RCA and we thought it would be best and easiest with Marleys routine if we just ordered in every night... Not even close to our typical NYC food experience, but things are different with a 6 month old...

Food was well priced, tasty and delivered hot... We ate here more then once, but these are the pics from our first order, much more then enough food!

With Mark being a vegetarian Red Veg was a favourite of ours when we lived here, and we didn’t get back there on any of our previous visits, so we made a point of going… With good reason, the burgers are still amazing, the smoked chicory my favourite, the sprig of coriander tops it off perfectly… The only downside is the very small space, luckily it was rather quiet so we squeezed the pram in, but this wouldn’t work at a busy time!

It has become a bit of a tradition to come here for Marks birthday, for a few reasons... One is its nice to treat ourselves to a beautiful meal... Two, they do a lovely vegetarian option, and seeing as though Mark is a vegetarian that helps... Three, all profits go towards helping more young people get into the program...

A nice space, we were seated in the less cosy area this time, unfortunately the wood seats aren't comfortable enough for a two hour meal, they really should keep this seating for the express customers and give the more comfy seats to those eating the 6 course degustation menu...The service is always spectacular, it hasn't yet disappointed... Strangely they have changed the pricing structure so that the vegetarians price is the same as the meat eaters price which seems a bit rich to me, but more profits for the kids I guess?!? The cheese board went from being full the first time, to 5 or so cheeses last time down to one cheese this time... It does make sense as I'm sure everyone is always too full to eat it, but its a noticeable drop in cheese there!

Overall I did enjoy my meal and I am assured that Mark enjoyed his, though I was a little disappointed in a couple of the courses, we will be back next year!

Starter:
Cheese rice and tomato in a batter covered in salt with aioli - one of the best parts of the meal!!!

1st course vegetarian option:
Bread salad - there wasn't a vegetarian option on the menu for this course, we thought it might have been a bit of an afterthought...

1st course meat option:
Porchettadi testa’ with Fifteens pickled vegetables
This was probably my least favourite course, not hot on uncooked meats...

2nd course:
Ribollita: a thick Tuscan bread soup with cavalo nero, cannellini beans and lashings of Oliveria's Fifteen olive oil

This was a hearty soup, but it lacked seasoning and really felt like something I could easily whip up at home...

3rd course vegetarian option:
Rotolo of baby spinach, baked ricotta, sliced mushrooms, marjoram and lemon with nutty brown butter, crispy sage and Parmigiano Reggiano

3rd Course meat option:
Tagliatelle with a rich beef shin ragout, rosemary and orange gremolata and Parmigiano Reggiano
The tagliatelle was lovely, the star of the show was the beef which melted in my mouth...

4th course meat option:
Slow roasted, crispy Berkshire pork belly with oozy parmesan polenta, jus and salsa verdi
This was by far the most outstanding pork belly I have ever had, not too fatty, the pork tore away and melted in my mouth, the crackle was perfect, the polenta complimented it all, just freaking divine!!!

4th course vegetarian option:
‘Torte di verdure mista’: ricotta and mixed seasonal vegetables in a rustic pastry case with crème fraiche and pangrattato

Orange sorbet to refresh the palate before dessert

5th course:
Orange and vanilla frangipani tart with mascarpone
On its own the tar was lovely, a little heavy but with the mascarpone it lightened it up, a delightful dessert!

6th course:
Goats cheese and fig chutney
It was supposed to be farmhouse cheddar but they were out of it
I was far too full to try this but Mark said that the strong cheese was good...

I remember coming here alot when I was much younger... Cricket and I were looking for a halfway meeting spot for breakfast and I thought we should try it... Good choice... We both had the eggs Benedict, though their version comes with ham and spinach, so I opted out of the spinach... At $16.50 it was a little more then I usually pay for eggs ben, but when it came with 3 eggs and a chunky slice of char grilled tomato, with that yummy smoky taste, I thought it was really good and unexpected value! Staff were friendly and efficient... Overall a very impressive Saturday morning breakfast experience...

Hitting Bokchoy Tang was a part of our Good Food Guide travels... Reading the menu online was getting me really excited, and with good reason, they definitely delivered... The staff were very attentive, the food was served in good time and so very tasty... The room was beautiful, with lovely views of Federation Square... And for what we ate the price was good...

Unfortunately I forgot my camera, but we got a pic of my
CRISPY BARRAMUNDI W. LEMON HONEY SAUCE
Filleted whole barramundi deep-fried until crisp & served w. red capsicum, peas & a lemon honey sauce 24.50
This was divine! The fish was cooked to perfection and the sauce perfectly complemented it... I wasn't hot on having the head and tail on my plate, but each to their own...
TOFU HOT POT Fresh firm tofu w. mushrooms, carrots, baby corn, broad bean, Chinese cabbage, ginger, spring onions & light soy sauce20.50
Mark ate this and enjoyed it, the camera on the phone crashed by this stage so no pic...
Overall we would definitely go back, the banquets look fantastic if you were to go with a group of people...

Meeting Mark after work Friday night before the No Comply exhibition I was starving... Had a yearning for Pad Thai but haven't really eaten much Thai in the city, so cruising down China Town we stopped at the first opportunity...

It was early, so quite empty hence the service was great... Ordering was easy a serve of veg spring rolls and veg pad Thai for Mark and meaty spring rolls and meaty pad Thai for me... Very reasonably priced, especially for dinner in the city... Spring rolls were average, as were both pad thai's, would prefer to pay the extra $4 and get the amazing pad Thai served at our local... Afterwards my tummy hurt a little, and later it turned out that the prawns (can only assume) made me sick... So I wont be going back there...

La Pizza - Cairns

La Pizza.

Every night walking home the smell of this place made you want pizza… a week into our stay we decided to succumb to the smell… seated by a girl on her first day, who didn’t understand our order, started the experience off on a bad note… soon after we ordered I needed the bathroom, she said she would find out where it was, the pizza came but she didn’t come through with the info, by which time I was busting… I ate the pizza in record time, the pizza itself was over flavoured with oregano and rosemary – on a Hawaiian – I don’t think so, and the girl had still not found out where the bathroom was, I asked another member of staff, she gave me keys and directions to a place far far away… I followed the directions and came to a dark alley, no way I was going there, went back fuming and busting, paid and cruised quickly to the night markets to use their facilities… This place didn’t live up to the amazing pizza smells…

We have been to this restaurant before, when it first opened... The food was fantastic, though it was very dark and at times hard to see... We thought that we would go back again for Marks birthday and have another round of the degustation menu - awesome that they have a meat and vegetarian option... The slow roasted lamb the first time was the meat highlight of the year for me, unfortunately that wasnt being served this time...

The food was pretty good, not as great as the first time, but the lighting was better, and the service impeccable... Our waiter - Dan - was extremely helpful on the pregnancy front making sure that I could eat everything on the menu, and changing dishes accordingly...

Appetiser: Zucchini flowers with mint and ricotta in tempura batter
A yummy start, I think that it was Marks favourite
Vegetarian 1st course - we both had this: bruschetta with a creamy cheese and broadbean mash and peas
This was divine!

Vegetarian Course 2: Minestrone
Mark said that this was average, a bit bland

Non vegetarian Course 2: tuna carpaccio with quails egg and salad
Another great course, the tuna and the egg went surprisingly well together

Vegetarian course 3 we both had this: ricotta, mushroom, sage, marjoram wrapped in light pasta sprinkled with parmesan
This was amazing, the perfect amount, too much could get a bit rich

Vegetarian course 4: oozy polenta, roasted pumpkin, cavalo nero, poached free range egg, parmesan and micro herbs
Mark said that this was good
Non vegetarian Course 4: John Dory in a butter herby sauce
Good fish, great sauce!

Palatte cleanser: watermelon sorbet

Dessert course 5: Chocolate tart
This was too rich, neither of us could finish it

Cheese board course 6
We only barely touched this, after 2.5 hours with the flu we were both ready to go, and full up on the prior yummy dishes...

Another Good Food Guide 2009 recommendation... Friends have raved about this spot, but unfortunately I would have to say don't believe the hype... The service here was completely incompetent... It may have been that the area we sat in they had opened specifically because the weather was divine and so had no idea how to work it out, but the drama of retrieving my credit card as insurance and paying (tried to charge us twice), it was all a bit much really and definitely tarnished the positive feelings I had towards the menu and food itself...

One of the main reasons I wanted to take my husband here was because of their extensive vegetarian menu, they came through on that... Considering it was lunch time we thought we would grab 3 light dishes to share, they were indeed light, probably could have done with another one... The Sunomono Salad had some of the yummiest seaweed that I have tasted, but the rest of the salad felt a bit uninspired... The Shojin-Age (tempura vegetables) was lovely, the batter was light and not too oily and the vegetables were tasty... The Green Gyoza I found to be as good as non meat gets, but Mark wasn't a fan...

Lovely venue, lovely food but the service really let this place down...

Sunomono Salad: blanched & shredded Japanese seaweed & vegetable salad with a delicious sweet vinegar Japanese dressing - low in calories high in vitamins, minerals, fibre & calcium

Shojin-Age
Vegetable tempura w fresh grated ginger, daikon & dashi dipping sauce

Green Gyoza 6 vegetarian (soy protein) dumplings: steamed then pan seared until tender

As the day by the pool dragged on we got very hungry, and the cafe was the only real option… The menu was overpriced but we both settled on the club sandwich for $18… When it came it was large, really large, with chips too… worth the money, was stuffed up until dinner time! Amazing!

Opening Hours: 7:30am until late, 7-days

The service here was slow to start, thinking about leaving as menus and general acknowledgement was non existent, but once the waitress got the ball rolling it was all good… The food was good and fast, my lamb was divine, and the vegetables undercooked, good for nutrients though unexpected… The risotto was good but a little dry, Tracey gave it an 8 out of 10, which is good going for a slightly dry, but flavoursome risotto.
