café l'incontro - Melbourne

café l'incontro
140 Swanston Street,
Melbourne
Tel. 9650 9603

We stopped here for a rest and beverage after the Melbourne City Romp... Have been here before with no complaint BUT this time was different... We waited around 20 minutes to order our drinks at the counter, in which time one staff member kept messing up, the other berating him in front of everyone, meanwhile our legs were caning after 4 hours of running around Melbourne... When finally we were served, we waited for our drinks and finally took a seat... My hot chocolate was only half full, the rest was froth, this pissed me off, but I couldn't be arsed getting up to complain, and so took a photo of the evidence and thought I would vent here instead... Rude... Bad service, bad product, never returning...

Timbale - Richmond

Cricket and I dropped in here Saturday morning for a quickie breakky... It is a small spot (well the downstairs area, didn't go upstairs), and they only take cash... The staff didn't really seem to know what was going on, but we ordered anyways... Eggs Benedict, no surprises there! The surprise was that there was cheese under the egg, and the chopped parsley definitely added something... It wasn't your usual eggs ben, but it was good, though of the two serves we ordered (4 eggs) one egg was hard! I don't really find that acceptable, if your job is to cook eggs, then you best know how to cook eggs! Wouldn't go back, based on the service and the hard egg, but it was a different and tasty experience...

Babble bar and café

Babble bar & café
4 izett street

I love Babble, used to spend many a Saturday afternoon here with Leigh drinking their divine hot chocolate and watching the world go by... Have eaten breakfast here a fair bit and have never had a bad egg, so for Kellys birthday, Cricket and I took her here for brunch... Not a mistake, we all had eggs benedict or florentine and they were all yummy... Mostly the service was good, but by the time it was full (about 20 minutes after we got there) things started taking too long, waited what seemed like an eternity for my hot chocolate, but on the second ask it appeared quite quickly and was well worth it, their hot chocolates are always good!

Mum and I went to the Yering Station farmers market on Sunday and on to a lunch out in Lilydale, in between appointments we stopped at this cafe... Mum has been here a few times and loves it there... I can see why, its also a massive native nursery and has a lovely big gift shop attached... I was starving and in desperate need of a snack so when I saw the raspberry and passion fruit muffin I was sorted... The muffin (unfortunately) came heated, with a side shot of custard, which is a nice thought, its just that I don't want heated muffins, if I wanted it heated I would have asked, which leads me to believe that it was probably stale or something... And a bit pricey at $5.90! Lovely environment, not lovely muffin, was more passion fruit pips then raspberry, wouldn't order another muffin there...

Little Cupcakes

We have been meaning to check this spot for a while now but just never got there... By the time we did get there on Saturday they had sold out of most of the normal sized cupcakes leaving mostly mini cupcakes so we got 4 between us... The highlights were the White Chocolate teddy and the Belgian Chocolate, the vanilla was also pretty good, super fluffy cake, and the coffee was just average... Siting out the front a random lady from inside 'had to take a photo for us because it was such a cute shot', which was extremely nice of her, I love that stuff!

This is one of Michelle and Sekas' favourite places, and I can see why... Was here this time last year and not much has changed... Still busy and cute, great staff, awesome menu - including that the menu is read out of recycled Golden Books... Love eating in the laneways in the city, watching the world go by in a way I only do when on holidays... I had the BLAT bagel that was divine, bacon, rocket, tomato, mayo and more and Mich had the vego, which is her favourite, I'm pretty sure she gets it every time! Gooood toasted bagels, will be back!

Hot Honey

Hot Honey
40 - 42 Armstrong St
Middle Park
96961900

We have been here before, almost a year ago, and we loved it! We came back for mothers day lunch, late after the classic... We all thoroughly enjoyed our meals, they have lots of veggie options...

I had the same as last time, cornbread with bacon, tomato salsa, avocado and sour cream, and it was divine!!! I really need to learn how to make corn bread! Mark had the feta and roasted tomato toasted... We all decided that a dessert would suit the special occasion, and we couldn't decide what we wanted, so we got a few and shared... The orange 'princess' cupcake was so light and fluffy! The lemon slice was yummy, and the berry meringue was divine, so many berries, and wicked meringue, would have preferred a chocolate sauce to cream, but it was amazing the way it was! We left absolutely stuffed, great service, friendly staff and wicked food!!!
