Well Michelle is back from London and so we went back to Jungle Juice in the laneways in Melboune for a bagel... We both had the BLAT (bacon, lettuce, avocado, tomato) was dope as always... Very friendly service, but the bagels took much longer then we are used to... We will be back...

Carnivale Season 1 - TV
We are slowly working our way through HBO shows, and Carnivale was next on the list... The first episode had me intrigued, lots of characters and the Twin Peaks weirdness that keeps you guessing... As the episodes go on there are some truly disturbing ideas, and they inspire the next viewing, but it is slow... So slow in fact that at the end of the last episode in the season I felt that it was the first real thing that had happened... We will try for season two, because of the enchantment, it just doesn't suck you in like other HBO favourites...The Other Boleyn Girl - Film
I am a fan of Philippa Gregory as well as having an avid interest in the Tudors, so as you could probably imagine I was very excited about this film... Unfortunately when we were going to see it we decided that £14 at Leicester Square was a bit much on limited time... Now that the DVD release has happened Cricket and I made a time to watch it (she introduced me to the book in 04)...
I have very little that's positive to say about this film... The casting wasn't great, the story was chopped up beyond what could be perceived as a full picture of the story, at one point about 4 years passed in a ten minute period (without letting the audience know that was the case) and some key elements in relationships and character development were missed... Am glad that I didn't pay to see it in London, its not worth the money, or the time...

I try to get to the show every year that I am in Melbourne... Its always good to checkout the farm animals, side shows, show bags, local produce, dog show etc... This year I went twice, and had two totally different experiences, both great days! I would highly recommend not going on a weekend, place is packed!

Much respect to anyone putting on a free event of this size... Entering Hamer Hall and going down to the sneaker stall area was probably the best thing about the day, that said we only stayed a couple hours... A good range of stalls and product, though not much for women, no surprises there... The acts were lukewarm at best, though we didn't see the headliners, muph and plutonic & wikid force breakers, the acts we did see were the community type of acts which were more cringeworthy then enjoyable... But at least they had the confidence to get up there and do their thing...

When I started this book I was expecting to be immediately sucked in… It didn’t quite happen that way, but somehow within 24 hours I had finished this story… This book was sitting on my book shelf for many many months before I decided to take it away with me... I wanted to read this before seeing the film, and was especially interested in the account of the situation in Afghanistan... The characters were depressingly real at times, my heart broke as the story took shape… Luckily it is a story of redemption which is what kept me reading… I thoroughly enjoyed this story and it swirled around my head on the flight home, which is what makes a great story to me...

Another Good Food Guide 2009 recommendation... Friends have raved about this spot, but unfortunately I would have to say don't believe the hype... The service here was completely incompetent... It may have been that the area we sat in they had opened specifically because the weather was divine and so had no idea how to work it out, but the drama of retrieving my credit card as insurance and paying (tried to charge us twice), it was all a bit much really and definitely tarnished the positive feelings I had towards the menu and food itself...
One of the main reasons I wanted to take my husband here was because of their extensive vegetarian menu, they came through on that... Considering it was lunch time we thought we would grab 3 light dishes to share, they were indeed light, probably could have done with another one... The Sunomono Salad had some of the yummiest seaweed that I have tasted, but the rest of the salad felt a bit uninspired... The Shojin-Age (tempura vegetables) was lovely, the batter was light and not too oily and the vegetables were tasty... The Green Gyoza I found to be as good as non meat gets, but Mark wasn't a fan...
Lovely venue, lovely food but the service really let this place down...

It feels like I have been recommended books by Jodi Picoult forever… I finally picked up one of her old ones through Annettes bookclub many months ago, and only got around to reading it on holiday…

I found the film quite touching, not aware previously of the socio economic backgrounds that drive this beach culture, and almost proud of the way that the community rallies together to bring kids out of the dark and into the surf… I think that there is a lot to be gained from seeing this, if not just for a basic awareness of beach culture, but you will probably find something more...

A short break in Surfers
Well on return from our break in Surfers I feel completely refreshed... Doing nothin but chillin every day, letting go of work stresses, getting a tan, enjoying Tracey but missing Mark... We did have plans, before we booked I wasn't pregnant so the theme parks were hot on our list, but that all changed with this baby growing... Then we renegotiated plans, trips to markets and maybe Byron, but ultimately the lovely pool area and light shopping that our resort provided was all we needed...
The males in Surfers need to be neutered, always going previously with my husband I wasn't aware that the men up there are on heat, especially when we couldn't leave our apartment without being harassed... Obvious and cheesy lines that I doubt get these geezers any play, ever...
The food was hit and miss... Usually the food is mostly hit, but this year it just wasn't as good as other years... It was quite unfortunate...
Overall the trip was greatness, mostly due to the warm weather, and great environment... The last girls trip before the baby comes...
