Jersey Shore

Taken from MTV.com:
MTV has focused its lens on various subcultures and rites of passage, uncovering a host of memorable characters in the process. With its newest series, Jersey Shore, MTV peels back yet a different curtain to follow eight young adults as they move into a summer share to indulge in everything Seaside Heights, New Jersey, one of the most popular summer hot spots, has to offer. Jersey Shore uncovers sometimes surprising, often hilarious and usually over-the-top personalities as they juggle work, love, nightlife, friendship and the drama that ensues. In the end, viewers see that there is more to these tan and buff individuals than hair gel.

I had read too much about this cast on Perezhilton.com and decided to download it to watch in my bubs nap time... I wasn't sure what to expect, I couldn't get into the Hills and there were many comparisons... Well unlike the Hills, I was addicted to this from the first episode... Sure I can see why its controversial, but it is also HILARIOUS! Once you eventually remember who they all are (I keep getting confused with Sammi and JWow thinking ShamWow), you will be addicted too...

24 season 7

I remember my first season (or three) of 24, they involved watching up to 20 episodes in one day (it was too hot to go outside), and being completely addicted... Dreaming about Jack Bauer rescuing me, etc... As the seasons went on it got a bit blegh, but being a loyal fan I persisted, thankfully as season 7 really delivered... In a way that the show hasn't in a while... The whole Tony storyline had me... Was so happy to see old cast members back and new cast members giving good performances... If 24 has lost you over the past few years - now is the time to come back to it!

Dollhouse Season 1

When reading about this series it sounded a bit complex and I almost thought that I wouldn't get into it, but its another gem from Joss Whedon… Was met with mixed reviews, but I am completely sold on it! Am stoked it has been picked up for a second season! Eliza gives a great performance and its good to see a few old faces in some episodes...

True Blood - HBO

True Blood - HBO

I had high hopes for this show, being a HBO fan, I really thought it would come through... We sat through 7 episodes, hoping that something more would happen, but it was very slow and the most interesting story line was that of the main characters brother... A good idea for a story, mediocre execution and at times some pretty horrific acting, most of that done by Stephen Moyer... I really wouldn't bother...

Carnivale Season 1 - TV

We are slowly working our way through HBO shows, and Carnivale was next on the list... The first episode had me intrigued, lots of characters and the Twin Peaks weirdness that keeps you guessing... As the episodes go on there are some truly disturbing ideas, and they inspire the next viewing, but it is slow... So slow in fact that at the end of the last episode in the season I felt that it was the first real thing that had happened... We will try for season two, because of the enchantment, it just doesn't suck you in like other HBO favourites...

Moonlight - Season One

Moonlight - Season One

When starting this I did not see the parallels between this show and Angel... Once through the first episode it was clear, except that Angel is far superior... A few episodes into this show it certainly brings its own flavour to the vamp scene and it was mildly addictive... With a cast that grows and an interesting story through the weekly subplots... Was sad to find out that there will be no season 2, though apparently they are shopping it around to different networks... Will never be a favourite, but still worth the time...

Reaper Season 1 TV

Reaper Season 1 TV

On a recommendation from a friend I began watching Reaper... The first episode was directed by Kevin Smith which put an instant smile on Marks face... The first episode was good, I felt like it was building to something special... The next episode was unfortunately too much 'more of the same'... Started the third and fell asleep... Now in my current state that isn't quite saying something, but that I manage to stay up through So you think you can dance (US) 3 nights a week is saying something... haha... I spoke to the friend that recommended it, Nikesh I am calling you out ;) and it turned out that he stopped watching it too... For the same reason, too formulaic and I quote
' slacker moment
devil task
physical impediment
investigation
ooh i love you but i can't tell you moment
first defeat
devil says stick with it
fluke of luck they triumph'

This leads me to believe that it might appeal to a very young audience, with its Scooby Doo type formula that we all kept watching as kids, though the content isn't for children... Tough...

Don't watch it...

Rome Seasons 1 and 2 - HBO

Rome Seasons 1 and 2 - HBO

When this show came to Australian TV a few years ago I was mildly interested, but was of the mind that anything this good wouldn't make it to free to air TV... I was wrong...

Like most HBO shows it has its own distinct flavour, set in a time and place that we are all aware of, but which might lead us to believe that it might just be a historically accurate portrayal of the time... It is so much more, focusing on the relationships as well as the politics of the time, bringing that HBO real feeling to it, you don't feel educated as such, you feel completely entertained, attached to the characters and have a desire to know what is going to happen next...

We watched both seasons in a couple of weeks and am now a bit disgruntled that there is no more, no third season, no film... If you are in to other HBO shows chances are that you will like this...

30 Rock season 1 and 2

30 Rock season 1 and 2

I have to comment on this show... Created by Tina Fey the 'star' of the show (amongst other 'stars' that she works with) is the head writer on a sketch comedy show 'TGS with Tracey Jordan', who played by Tracey Morgan, is a hilarious character with classic one liners that have me giggling the next day on the way to work... The main highlight for me is Kenneth, who irritated me at first, but is now clearly my favourite played by Jack McBrayer (Forgetting Sarah Marshall)... All in all a great cast inluding Alec Baldwin, Jane Krakowski, Scott Adsit, Judah Friedlander, Katrina Bowden, Keith Powell, Lonny Ross and loads of special guest stars... Funny story lines, a one camera set up which makes it feel a little real and the wonderful NYC as a backdrop... Am deeply considering doing the NBC tour at Rockefeller centre when we go back next year!

Series returns October 30th, you best get on the d/l to get up to speed before then!
